Painting for me is a very important part of my life. I can simply put it in words: "I paint because it makes me happy". I love to learn about this world through painting. The process of searching out shapes and colors in nature intrigues me. Watercolor is my favorite medium; it always has this marvelous element of surprise. It teaches you to be patient and sometimes accepting of "happy accidents" when paint behaves according to its own will. I get such a thrill seeing paint staining the paper it is almost a spiritual experience.
I have a special place in my heart for Newfoundland. I love painting there. In my opinion this province is exceptional; it is poetic and mystical and full of stories. The contrast of textures there is very interesting; you have rocks and waves and wood and fog, old boats and clotheslines.
I also enjoy visiting France and painting landscape there. It is so drastically different from Newfoundland. Here you have an explosion of colors and lots of sun and completely different sky.
I've studied art in Russia and continued taking classes in Ontario. I am still developing as an artist but I am very passionate about it. |
