Ruth Rodgers paints primarily in soft pastels. She is inspired by her immediate surroundings, and hopes that her work will help viewers to see the beauty in their everyday surroundings. A country girl since age 13, Ruth focuses mostly on the rural landscapes and rhythms of agricultural life, with occasional trips to exotic locations. More recently, she has also enjoyed interpreting the diversity of human beauty and character through figural works.
Ruth describes her style as “naturalism” in which the work attempts to represent how the human eye actually sees. Accordingly, her paintings combine detailed focus points and soft-edged peripheries, and are often expressions of the fleeting effects of light.
Largely self-taught, Ruth has also completed workshop studies with a number of North America’s premier pastelists, and hopes she has distilled their influence and teachings into her own unique vision.
