A Gift of Art is continually evolving, expanding its role in the community, by providing educational and fun loving events for everyone of every age to enjoy. Our music in the sculpture garden this summer provided the opportunity for local musicians to play and the visitors to absorb the tranquility provided by both the music and the gentle sound of the gardens small fountain.

CREATIVE RECYCLING SHOW - APRIL
NEWCASTLE'S ARTISTS & ARTISANS SHOW AND SALE - July 10, 2010
We had a very special event happen at the show.  Carver Jan Oegema has produced a tribute to Canada’s Military Heroes.  This 4 foot by 3 foot memorial is hand carved and depicts the sad ritual which is happening too often.  You will notice in the carving the Caskets of the fallen being taken from the planes, all the funeral cortege, the bridges full of people honouring their hearses passing.  It includes the icons of the first and second world wars, poppies, maple leaves and crosses.  It portrays not just the dead but the living heroes coping with their injuries, who need our help.

The carving was unveiled at the lakeside show on Saturday, July 10th.  It is an extraordinary work, produced by a Dutch immigrant to this country who remembers only two well his formative years in war torn Holland.
