I began working with hard shelled gourds in 2008 after I went to a hobby show in Toronto. The Canadian Gourd Society was at this show for their annual Gourdfest. I had grown gourds in my own garden before, but I never knew what to do with them. I was shown that each gourd was carefully dried, cleaned and worked up into a one-of-a-kind piece of art. I bought and took home some gourds and supplies. I was introduced to a group of ladies from Lakefield. We meet once a month at a studio and work on our gourds together. The gourd for me has become mother natures own canvas. I am now a member of the Canadian Gourd Society. Their Gourdfest is now at Black Creek Pioneer Village every October. I entered 15 gourds in the 2010 competition, and came home with 13 ribbons!
I live just outside of Tyrone on 10 acres. I have raised five children with my husband Gerry. I now devote most of my time to gourds, my gardens and my family.
